Hair and scalp specialists

Yongbo Jia, MD

Yongbo Jia, MD (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · hair and scalp diagnosis · medical management and monitoring

Dr. Yongbo Jia is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its dermatology service at Chongqing West District Hospital — the lead physician of this site’s hair and scalp content. A vice chief physician and licensed aesthetic attending, he graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

His practice is the diagnosis and medical management of hair loss: the pattern and speed of loss, the state of the scalp, trichoscopy findings, and the judgement about which blood tests or biopsy the history actually justifies. He separates the categories that look alike but behave differently — pattern hair loss, shedding conditions, immune-mediated loss and early scarring alopecia — and he manages hair loss as a long-term condition with monitoring rather than a single course of treatment.

Clinical focus

  • Diagnosis and medical management of pattern hair loss in men and women, including when oral treatment is justified and how it is monitored
  • Assessment of diffuse shedding: telogen effluvium, thyroid disease, iron deficiency and other systemic contributors
  • Trichoscopy and scalp biopsy, with particular attention to recognising scarring alopecia early
  • Diagnosis of the scalp conditions that accompany or mimic hair loss, including seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis
  • Long-term follow-up of chronic hair loss, including the monitoring that oral treatment requires

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Jiusan Society
  • Member, Chongqing Integrative Medicine Skin & Beauty Committee
  • Advanced training at the Institute of Dermatology (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) and Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Diagnosis first

Most hair treatment failures trace back to a missed diagnosis. Pattern hair loss, shedding after illness and early scarring alopecia can look similar in a photograph and behave completely differently; getting the category right is what decides whether the next twelve months are worth spending.

Ke He, MD

Ke He, MD (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin & laser aesthetics · procedural adjuncts · scalp health

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Her role in the hair service is the procedural arm: platelet-rich plasma, microneedling and light-based treatment used as adjuncts to medical management rather than as substitutes for it, and the treatment of scalp inflammation and coexisting skin disease that makes everything else harder to assess. She plans each course around the diagnosis, the stage of loss and the person’s own healing response.

Clinical focus

  • Platelet-rich plasma and microneedling for pattern hair loss, used as adjuncts to medical treatment
  • Low-level laser and light devices, and their realistic place in a long-term hair plan
  • Laser and energy-based treatment of scalp inflammation and coexisting skin disease
  • Scalp camouflage and the cosmetic management of visible thinning
  • Full-cycle scalp and skin management: barrier repair and laser-based rejuvenation

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

Adjuncts are adjuncts

Procedures can add to a hair plan; they do not replace one. A device or an injection chosen without a diagnosis, or used while the underlying process is untreated, produces expense and disappointment rather than density. The order matters: diagnose, treat the cause, then consider what else can help.

Tongchun Mao, MD

Tongchun Mao, MD (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · hair transplantation · hairline design

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

Within the hair team his work is transplantation and hairline design: harvesting follicular units from stable donor scalp, planning how many grafts a donor area can actually supply, and placing them so the result reads as a natural hairline rather than a line of plugs. He is direct about the limits — transplantation redistributes existing hair, it does not create new hair, and it works best when medical treatment is controlling the underlying process around it.

Clinical focus

  • Follicular unit extraction hair transplantation and donor-site assessment
  • Hairline design and the natural placement of grafts in male and female pattern hair loss
  • Refined aesthetic closure applied to scalp surgery and scar revision
  • Detailed facial-feature refinement and repair (eyelid, nose, chin, lip)
  • Facial rejuvenation injections and aesthetic excision of superficial tumours

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an "Outstanding Young Physician" at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

The donor area is the limit

Every transplant is bounded by how much stable hair the donor area can spare. A surgeon who promises to fill a bald crown without discussing donor supply, or without controlling the underlying hair loss first, is planning a result that will not hold.

Shaoliang Wang, MD

Shaoliang Wang, MD (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · scarring alopecia · complex scalp repair

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, and brings more than two decades of tertiary-hospital surgical experience to his practice.

Within the hair team he leads the surgical side: the management of scarring alopecia where follicle destruction is permanent, excision and repair of scalp lesions with margin control, revision of previous transplant work, and complex wound repair — the operations in which tissue must come out and the repair must look as good as medicine allows.

Clinical focus

  • Surgical management of scarring alopecia, including scar excision and scalp reduction
  • Revision of previous hair transplantation and correction of unsatisfactory hairline work
  • Excision and repair of scalp lesions with margin control and layered cosmetic closure
  • Complex wound repair and tertiary-hospital surgical support for dermatologic cases
  • Repair of failed cosmetic operations (revision and reconstruction)

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Craniofacial Surgery Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics & Beauty Committee
  • Standing Committee Member, Chongqing Medical Doctor Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Expert Panel, Chongqing Aesthetic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Developed a new endoscope- and water-jet-assisted technique for removing injected polyacrylamide (Aomingding) breast filler; awarded the Wang Liangneng Cup Military Excellent Scientific Paper Award
  • Principal investigator on an international cooperation sub-project, a Chongqing Natural Science Foundation grant, and a Third Military Medical University technology-transfer project; published 4 SCI papers and holds 8 national invention patents

A hospital-based advantage

When scalp tissue has to be removed or a diagnosis is in doubt, the specimen goes to the hospital’s own pathologists, and complicated cases draw on anaesthesiology, imaging and intensive care. Practicing inside a tertiary general hospital means those resources stand behind every operation.
